Data storage

Entries are stored as JSON files in your Application Support directory, with local backups alongside them.

Network access

Aion opens no network connections of its own. Some integrations ask macOS to reach the network.

Activity records

Aion keeps a local record of the commands you use, the searches you submit, and the days you open. It never leaves your Mac.

Third-party dependencies

None. Aion is built entirely on Apple frameworks: SwiftUI, AppKit, CoreLocation, MapKit, EventKit, Contacts, Photos, UserNotifications, NaturalLanguage, and CloudKit.

iCloud backup

Aion can mirror your diary to your own private iCloud database through Apple’s CloudKit. The mirror is one-way.

Location

Aion can use CoreLocation to suggest your current city for today’s entry. It first checks the places you confirmed on earlier days, then a list of major cities inside the app, both offline. Beyond that list, macOS looks the name up and sends the coordinate to Apple. The city can also be typed. A typed city outside that list goes to Apple to find its coordinate. Aion stores the coordinate with that day’s entry.

Contacts

With Contacts Birthdays turned on, Aion reads birthdays and names to show them on the Calendar. It is read-only.

Photos

Aion writes images you export. It never reads your library.

Apple Reminders

Mirroring a reminder to Apple Reminders goes through macOS’s EventKit. Aion’s own reminders work without the integration.

Notifications

Aion posts notifications only for its own reminders.

Search by meaning

Aion can find entries that mean something similar to the one you are reading. It uses Apple’s on-device language model. The index it builds is stored beside your diary. If your Mac does not already have that model, macOS downloads it once.
